Daniel's Music Bio

I have been a musician since a child touching on more instruments than my parents cared for. My focus always changed until I became a teen where the electric bass became my choice. With a very anti-establishment attitude at the time I was attracted to underground music Punk, Deathrock and Industrial of the 80s. I promoted my own shows in Santa Barbara, CA under the title Masque. Bands that participated or were in my direct circle were: Null and Void, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Crash Worship, Anvil Wind, Trance to the Sun and This Ascension along with my project Bio-Hazard Industries. Described as poetic assaults of noise and propaganda my music with collaborators at this period caused some discomfort to the uninitiated causing us to be kicked out of many open mike nights, though honestly it was my goal to push the threshold of noise to drown out what I saw as an overly plastic world. Other guerrilla style shows in impromptu style by taking control of parks and cafes for short sonic assaults.

In 1990 I moved to Ashland, OR and reformed BHI with a new core group which eventually fell apart. Desiring a more structured compositional form of music I began working with David B. forming a new Industrial Noise project called Daath Kulture. This is the beginning of my use of sampling and tape loops with non-conventional instrumentation and the beginning with my obsession with synthesizers. Performances include house shows to club venues and opening for Neurosis at this period.

1993 was the year I moved to Portland, OR catching the tail end of the scene that was the X-Ray Café I quickly established myself in projects which lead to the development of a small artist run label called Asura Records. Musical work to the present day includes performance art pieces with my wife Xtian Detox as Wake World Industries. Band and groups include ZoneWire (Rock/Electro Industrial), Trigger Shock (Electro Industrial), Daath Kulture (Noise/Experimental) and The Adytum (EBM/IDM). I have a studio on my property which has also been used by other local acts with my assistance for production of their projects. I am somewhat a prolific writer of music and have expanded over the years to playing multiple instruments and root myself in synthesizers.
